Some words from our president.

The Founder of Generous Hearts, Antonieta Lira Silva will speak about the Blog and a little about what the Organization does.

Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that we take our first step in the virtual world.

The Blog will make us much closer to the family that makes Generous Hearts a successful organization. We are a small organization, but with a big heart and big goals.

Generous Hearts is registered federally and provincially. It is a registered charity with a CRA number, which allows us to provide the donor with a tax receipt that can be included in your Tax Returns.

While presenting our Blog, I would like to speak a little about what is really important to our organization. Generous Hearts is committed to assisting children, adolescents and seniors in Pernambuco, which is in the northeast of Brazil. What we do is promote the cause of needy children and their families through education programs, health, hygiene and motivation to work, with the objective of building a better future. We believe that extreme poverty, crime and violence are the consequences of a lack of orientation and good education.

As for our seniors who are assisted by dedicated Sisters, we help them with the basic necessities for physical comfort in order for them to reach the end of their lives with love and dignity.

What do we do in Canada?

Always remember, that Generous Hearts is a grassroots charitable organization, totally run by volunteers. It is our mission to improve the lives of human beings. Our hope is that all those who are associated with our projects, enter the adult life equipped with some skill which they can contribute positively to their communities. With the personal effort of each volunteer, we are capable of showing our donors that their donations go directly to the cause we are dedicated to.

What do we do in Brazil?

We also work with volunteers, who all have the same sentiment of love and hope for a better world, which certainly happens when the more privileged people discover voluntary dedication brings positive results to our society.

In Recife, Generous Hearts has very special people leading the projects. It is the sum of the work done with love and dedication by all, that produces great results. There is no way to measure the smile filled with happiness, the sensation of being loved and the dreams for a better future, stamped on the faces of children who are provided lunch everyday at school, the youth who are taught a profession, the calm and tranquil gestures of seniors who have been provided with shelter and the special care given by the selfless Sisters at the Old Age Home. These priceless rewards make our volunteers, persons who are steadfast in this fight, and some of whom have been dedicated to this work for over 28 years.

In this inauguration of our first post, I would like to thank the public who made our last fundraiser, the recital by Fabio Caramuru, a success.

It was the night of November 13th, 2010 that Generous Hearts closed for this year the fundraisers to benefit our projects. From the feedback provided by the people that attended the event, we ended the year with a “bang”.

We had a beautiful show in the hall at Victoria University, Toronto University.

It is rare to have the opportunity to enjoy a concert with music of Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim and Fabio Caramuru’s very own music.

The hall vibrated with the wonderful music and the audience applauded and asked for an “encore”.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Fabio Caramuru and acknowledge his immense generosity.

I would also like to take this opportunity at the inauguration of this Blog to thank all our volunteers who did not hesitate to make the effort required for the success of this recital.

My heartfelt thanks for the sincere interest shown by the Generous Hearts volunteers who worked hard to ensure that we could present in Toronto, a Brazilian show, considered worthy by anyone who understands piano recitals, as confirmed by 2 pianists who attended the show.

So having said this, we leave our Blog at the disposition of all who are interested in participating with us for a cause that is ours.

Antonieta Lira Silva, Founder / President
