Generous Hearts' Activities - Summer 2012

BRAZIL FEST

Brazil Fest took place in Toronto on July 18, 2012, and Generous Hearts participated with a Bazaar to gather money for our projects in Brazil.
Volunteers Juliana Fay, Patricia Henrique, Sergio, Andre Pereira, Ronald Kramer, Ivoneti Stoffels and Grazielli Nardes were responsible for selling articles and getting donations throughout the day.
Although there was quite some rain during all day, we had a good profit from the bazaar, and the money has already been sent to the orphanage in Recife, under responsibility of IVH (Instituto Vitória Humana).
Many friends of our organization showed up throughout the day and helped turning this fundraising event  a real success, to the happiness of the unprivileged people we help.
General Hearts deeply thanks everyone who collaborated. We hope we can expect the same kind of response to invitations to future events.

Testimony from one of our volunteers about the event :

"I think it was cool, but mostly rewarding. Undoubtedly the cause of GH deserves our attention and help. Since I arrived in Canada I was interested in learning more about the organization. I came across dedicated and special people. Mrs. Antonieta Silva is a role model for me, she is simply fantastic!
I've never met anyone with such energy to help others. Volunteer work is in my blood, and I was very happy to find here a serious organization committed to causes in Brazil, a country that who undoubtedly needs much help."

GARAGE SALE

We organized a Garage Sale,  on July 25 2012, which was very important to fund the aviary project, by teenagers from the community of Sta Luzia in Camocim de Sao Felix. Throughout the day our president Antonieta Silva and volunteer Grazielli Nardes worked their hearts out.
The kids receive mentoring and orientation from Sr Reginalda and 3 other volunteers that travel from Recife to Camocin every 2 weeks to supervise the building of the aviary and also to teach them how to sell chicken and eggs. The ultimate target of this project is to help establish an official co-op that will help these kids early in their lives.
The money gathered from the garage sale was promptly sent out to Camocim. The timing was perfect, as we got the right amount of money needed to finalize the building of the aviary.
A lot of people showed up during that sunny day and the result was good.
Generous Hearts wants to thank everyone who collaborated to make possible to these kids to engage in a very noble and gratifying activity. Not only from the money they will earn from their work, but mainly for realizing that their personal effort is very worthwhile with our support.

Testimonial  from one of our volunteers about the event:
“When we talk about being Brazilians, we are talking about people who care about the others,be it through a hug full of warmth or through helping out someone seeking better life conditions.
The moving force to promote the growth of our country depends not only on politicians, but also on the strength that Brazilians own, individually but mainly as a group. Each one, by doing their share, be it by donating or actively acting towards providing basic needs to other people, will help many people in need of hope and love to be able to surpass the difficulties they find along the way.
As a volunteer, I can tell that although Brazil is very far from where I am now, it keeps vibrating inside my heart. Somehow, I am sure that being an active piece in Generous Hearts’ events I am helping the development of an impoverished region of Brazil.
I hope to be able to see all children, teenagers and elderly people living with respect and dignity.
If you think like me, you can turn your thoughts and words into reality. Come and be part of the team at Generous Hearts!”

BRAZILIAN ART EXHIBIT

On August 27, 2012, Generous Hearts was once again present at the Brazilian commemorations. Featured that day: Brazilian Art Exhibit at Toronto City Hall.

A television team from "Nossa TV Canada" interviewed Mrs. Antonieta Silva (President of Generous
Hearts) in order to make the organization known, highlighting its struggle to seek help for children, youth and elderly Brazilians developing several projects.

The art exhibition lasted a week. The following volunteers contributed: Cristina and Grazielli were present during the whole week along with the president, Antonieta Silva, to present to the Canadian public some information about Generous Hearts.

Our team is very happy with the participation of all of those involved with the development of our social projects.

Testimonial  from one of our volunteers about the event:
"Having participated with Generous Hearts in the Brazilian Art Exhibit (during the Brazilian week in Toronto) was important to spread the word about the mission of Generous Hearts for the general public, in addition to consolidating our cause among the Brazilian community. I found it very rewarding to see
the warmth, openness and respect manifested by people who already know the work of GH during the event."

BRAZILIAN DAY CANADA

September 3, 2012, was a very special day for all Brazilians residing in Canada: the Brazilian Day Canada.

People from various parts of Brazil were celebrating this day reminiscent of Brazil's political independence.

Generous Hearts, with the help of volunteers and event organizers set up a tent exclusively for the presentation of projects.

With the collaboration of the Brazilian families, we got a good sum that will go towards the Chicken coop project.

We are happy for another win!

Our volunteers Sergio, Tiago, Horacio, Thasia, Ronald, Cristina, Isabel, Andre and Grazielli were present spreading the word to everyone who approached our tent, both Brazilian and Canadians, showing ways they
can help those in need and present the projects developed back in Brazil.

Generous Hearts doesn't stop! Our team is always finding ways to maintain the completed projects which brought a little more dignity to mothers, young children and the elderly.

Testimonial  from one of our volunteers about the event:

"When I moved to Canada three years ago, I heard of Generous Hearts and I thought it would be an honor to be part of such an organization to help the poor in Northeast Brazil, giving elderly and children education, clothing, shelter and food.

Being a former firefighter I know how important and special it is to help those in need, bringing them hope and courage to continue struggling with their lives.

The last event that I worked as a volunteer (Brazilian Day, September 2012) gave me the opportunity to make a difference again and to feel great inside knowing that even a little help will make a change."

BRUNCH

For the happiness of all people who love participating in Generous Hearts' events, on 16 September , 2012 we had a Brunch to benefit the organization.

The opening of the meeting was made by president Mrs. Antonieta Silva, who thanked the presence of all and talked a little bit about the charitable organization.

We all were happy to help out and to enjoy the wonders of food that were donated to the event.

Our team thanks all contributors, donors, volunteers and participants who took one more step to help the children, young and elderly people that Generous Hearts is committed to help.

Testimonial  from one of our volunteers about the event:
"I loved having participated as a volunteer at the brunch brunch recently organized by Generous Hearts. It has been very rewarding to work for GH because while I have the opportunity to contribute to such important causes, I also have the pleasure of gathering with a very special and capable group of people led by Mrs. Antonieta Silva.
